Interview 1

Cody

  • Why did you decide to come to UNE?

I decided to come to UNE because I was accepted to the marine science program. My first choice was The University of Maine, but I was only accepted into their athletic training program. UNE was also a school for me that was far enough from home where I could be on my own, but be able to come home easily if I needed to.

  • What do you think about UNE now?

UNE is a very good school to go to learn. Their classes are small and it is very easy to get one on one help in class or outside of class with your professors. The classes are small enough where teachers take notice if you are missing, which I know I would of taken advantage of at a bigger school.

  • Unspecified follow up (this is where you improvise a bit)

Why did you choose Marine Biology as a major?

I chose marine bio as a major because I have always spent my life on the water. Before I could even walk my dad had me going out with him on the lobster boats. When I got older, fishing became my passion and it became my life during the summertime. I would spend my time with my dad working on our charter boat during the week and at a local fish market on the weekends.

  • Would you recommend attending UNE to perspective students?

I would reccomend UNE to a perspective student because of their accademic programs and their facilities, but with the school being so small, their is not always much going on especially on the weekends. I find that on the weekends, especially when there is no football game, the campus is dead with no one here.

  • Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

I am not currently involved in any extracurricular activities because I wanted to adapt at school before I commited to anything, but I will play for the men’s 7’s club rugby team in the spring and the men’s 15’s club team in the fall.

  • What is your biggest priority this semester and why?

My biggest priority for this semester is to adapt to my new life on campus, manage all my school work, and pass all of my classes with atleast a B average.

  • Why did you decide to come to UNE?

I decided to come to UNE because of the globl studies program. The global program has a lot of opprotunitites for me, and my goal is to take advantage of that. I want to do peace corp and government work, so I have hopes that the global program will help me prepare for that.

  • What do you think about UNE now?

I like UNE so far, I’m finding the environment to be supportive and friendly. I like the classes I’m taking enough and hope I’ll be able to take courses next semester regarding more to my major. I also like the environment of the club hockeyt team, the girls are super fun and supportive.

  • Where do you want to study in the global program and why?

I hope to study abroad next fall, however I am applying for a travel course to take in the spring that I hope to get into to begin my adventures abroad. I hope to be able to study abroad in France with the new program over there, because the program is more greared toward political science, which I like a lot. I also have a friend that goes to school in Paris, so that is also part of the reason, as well as a close friend in Denmark.

  • Would you recommend attending UNE to perspective students?

I would say it depends in what kind of school you want in my opinion, if you want a smaller school, kind of like I wanted, then I would, since I’ve expierienced such a positive environment and supportive professors.

  • Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

I play for the club hockey team, it’s an absolute blast, and I’m learning the sport a little bit still, but there has been nothing but constant support from them. They also make practices fun and long car rides to games fun as well.

  • What is your biggest priority this semester and why?

My biggest priority this semester is to bring up my grades. I’m not doing to well in a couple of my classes, especially biology, so I plan on going to tutoring and things like that.

Interview #4

Keegan

  • Why did you decide to come to UNE?
    • My decision for college was a difficult process. I am from Portland, and I  wasn’t planning on staying in Maine. A passion of mine is playing football and of all the school’s I got accepted to this was the only one where I would be willing to play football, and so I decided to come here for football.

  • What do you think about UNE now?
    • I think that it is a pretty good school. There isn’t a ton to do on campus which kinda stinks. The campus is beautiful, but I am not looking forward to the winters. I also don’t think that the program for my major is that great but a degree is a degree I guess.

  • What factors did you want in the college you went to?
    • I really wanted to be somewhere very warm. I initally looked at colleges in California and Florida. My top colleges were all top 100 international business schools except for UNE. I also, wanted to go somewhere where I could have a fresh start because I was ready for something new.

  • Would you recommend attending UNE to perspective students?
    • It honestly depends on who I was talking to. If it was someone interested in science type majors I would say 100% this is the school to go to. Other than that it would be on a case to case basis because I think everyone is different and I am gonna be honest with every question they have and I won’t tell them to come if it isn’t what they are looking for.

  • Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
    • Yeah, I play Football. It is pretty fun but it is definitely a huge time commitment. I am the type of person who needs routine so I think it helps big time.

  • What is your biggest priority this semester and why?
    • My biggest priority is to pass with atleast a 3.5 gpa. If i get that GPA I will only need to do 4 hours of study hall for football which would free up my time a lot more. Also, I am someone who has always gotten good grades and it really bothers me when I get bad grades so it sucks.
